Turned off the breast pump for the last time today.
No more fresh breast milk for David. :( It''s a sad day. I''ve been gradually ''drying'' up for the last few weeks. Very bittersweet situation. I had hoped to make it to my longterm goal of 18 months to maybe even 2 years, but it was not meant to be. Thankfully, David DOES have a nice freezer stash, so he''ll be getting ''momsicles'' for at least a few more months - maybe even up until 18 months of age. David is 14 months, 1 week old. I am thankful for modern technology that allowed me to feed David breast milk via a bottle as long as I was able to, in spite of many difficulties and inability for David to ''latch on'' and feed from the tap.
We found a reasonably priced ($12.99) pair of shoes at Payless last night while at the mall, so David now has his very first pair of shoes! They''re just simple white leather with a soft flexible sole, so these should work out well for David. Maybe this is what David needed to get the confidence that he CAN indeed walk on his own.
David took his first steps today! He and his mom were playing with a beach ball when David suddenly got it in his head to pick the beach ball up while standing and throw it. Since he seemed to respond to the beach ball, Mom had the brilliant idea to use it as "bait", so with Dad holding the beach ball just out of David''s reach, he took his first steps today. And on Mother''s Day to boot! How cool is that?
