Bethany had her regular ''well baby'' appt yesterday. She''s growing like a weed - she''s 17lbs 4 oz and 28+ inches long now. 6months old! :) She sits up on her own once we plop her in position and she is crawling. Nothing on the floor is safe anymore! *smiles*
Bethany had her well baby check up Friday. She''s doing well. Her meds are working for her so she''s not constantly screaming in pain from the acid in her stomach burning her lungs anymore.
She''s now 15 lbs, 25.5" long (most of that is her torso - she fits perfectly in 12 month clothing!), her head is 16".
While at the pediatrician''s office, I also set up the annual medical appts for the boys and have an ASL intepreter also requested for William''s medical appointments from now on. He''s at the point where he is interested in what''s going on conversation-wise around him, and his medical appointments, he has a right to know what the doctor is saying.
Baby has arrived! LONG hard labor. (went into labor Friday (5/16) night, got intense Saturday night and all day Sunday. Monday pushed for over 9 hours - 5hours first straight thru as much as I could, then took a couple hours off and stayed in birthing tub to rest thru contrax, then pushed hard for another 4+ hours when we all decided baby just couldn''t/wouldn''t descend below 0 station no matter what we did.) Baby did great thruout labor and pushing, never dropping heart rate below 120, never above 153. . . so we thought it was best while we were still in optimal condition (although i was pretty darn tired by then!) to do drive to grant hospital and get c/s.
Baby born Tuesday May 20, 2008 around 1am. Apgars 8,9.
I just got out of hospital Friday. I''m real sore and hurting you know how it is with surgery. . . I''m optimistic I''ll feel more like me next week sometime.
Bethany Lynn is her name. (named after BettyAnn''s mom, Elizabeth, and Darren''s Aunt Jennie (her middle name is Lynnette). This name means: God is my oath, torch or bright light/pretty one.
PS I am so glad I got the chance to go for a home birth. Even though it didn''t work out, it was such a good experience and so hard at times, too (labor hurts, lol!) ! And honestly, although I''m kind of thinking I may truly be one of the few folks who truly can''t push babies out, I want a midwife again if I choose to have another baby (I always did want four kids) - knowing that I''d be having a c/s once labor started (I''d at least want baby to choose birthday). ..
Had my prenatal appointment today and all is looking good! Didn''t pay attention to the baby''s heart rate today so can''t tell you waht it was, but baby was in a mellow mood at the time. *grin* Little one is currently ROA in position - I''ve been obsessed this pregnancy with keeping baby in anterior position so I''ve been shooting for OA, LOT, ROA. . . anything but posterior! Little *Z* head seems to be in good position not flexed - but we''ll check that out more at next appt. . . Baby is measuring 6 weeks ahead tummy size wise. My bp is still awesome 124/78 or something along those lines. Weight still creeping up, though. :( Not much I can do about it - I think I''m up 60 lbs now. Pretty typical for me in pregnancy - and I keep reminding myself a lot of the weight will drop in the first couple of weeks. I''m startign wtih the water retention now - nice all over even kind of water retention, which is also pretty typical for me. My medical professional is not concerned at all. All my tests are coming back real normal - no protein, nothing going on that shouldn''t, so it''s all good. I see my chiropractor again tomorrow (I see him weekly!) and will keep the pelvis and all in ideal formation so labor day will be easier. :) (I hope). Down to the last month or so of pregnancy which is great! Still moving pretty well and you can find me walking around my town when the weather is favorable so here''s hoping that also encourages baby to stay in ideal positioning.
Continued prayers for uneventful pregnancy and delivery with a healthy baby outcome and fast recovery for me. :)
Oh, and David is still thinking I''m having a girl, BUT when I explained that a girl meant having a sister, he told me he''d rather have a boy because he wants another brother. *grin* William still doesn''t seem to have a preference - he''s just constantly beating on my tummy telling me there''s a baby inside. . .
So what do YOU think? Am I having a boy or a girl? *smiles* (Truly, I don''t know myself!)
Another prenatal appt happened yesterday for little *Z*. Things are going well. Baby is measuring 7 weeks ahead which is pretty normal for me, but I do get a lot of comments from folks about ''carrying twins'', etc. .. nope, only one healthy, thriving little one in utero. . :) We still think this baby is gonna be in the high 9lb, low 10lb range when I''m full term. So it''ll be interesting to see if our guesses are correct.
BP was still awesome - 114/82, iron level is even creeping back up - it''s at 11.1. Babies heart rate is around 150''s and was moving around a whole lot - it was funny to watch the baby''s tushie moving and making my stomach all crooked while getting measured and heart rate assessed. I''m up a total of around 50 lbs now. I joke that I needed some extra weight added to my bottom to balance out the belly. .. I''m optimistic that this weight will be lost after baby is born. . this is pretty typical for me the high weight gains. (Wish my body didn''t feel the need to add on the weight, though!) But I''m sticking to the pregnancy protein ''diet'' my medical professional has encouraged for me all pregnancy and that''s probably a lot of why my health has been so phenomenal all pregnancy, and I know I can lose protein weight pretty easily - I''ve done it before with William''s pregnancy.
Baby is nicely head down (not engaged or anything - I have a happy floater!) and even seems to stay anterior for the most part - which is wonderful! I just adore my chiropractor for helping me with that - I''m doing all I can this pregnancy to avoid another posterior labor and delivery. . those are really long and uncomfortable. . .
The boys still have their views on what their sibling is going to be. David really truly believes we''re having a girl, and William just keeps saying ''baby in mommy'', lol. I don''t think he cares at all on gender - I think he''s more looking forward to a sibling he can show the ropes to. *grin*
Can''t wait to share this new little one with ya''ll when the lilies bloom! :)
As for ''cravings'' this pregnancy - seems like the only notable craving is this desire for grapefruit. For at least 2 months now, grapefruit has been the ''go to'' snack for me. Man, they just taste SOOOOOOOOOOO good! So sweet, with a hint of sour and so incredibly juicy. YUM! Makes you want to go eat a grapefruit, too, eh? *grin*
Prenatal Appt today for little *Z*. :) S/he''s happy in utero. I''m now ''only'' measuring 7 weeks ahead. :) Wee one''s heart rate is about 135-140ish. . . I''m up a total of 39 lbs thus far this pregnancy - so really for me, I''m doing REALLY well! :) The little one is projected to be about 5.5-6lbs at this time and there''s still quite a bit of time left before his/her arrival in the early summer, so we''re guessing baby''s gonna be in high 9lbs, low 10lb range - totally expected considering my ''farmer stock'' heritage. :) My bp is still awesome - 114/78. . .and so far, (knock on wood) I''ve not had a single charlie horse, YAY!) And more good news, all the chiropractic appointments seem to be helping as I don''t have the horrid pain in pregnancy I typically have AND baby is now head down - no longer breech. .. Little one seems happy in that position, so now I''m really hoping s/he decided to be anterior in positioning to make for an easier arrival. But we still have a LONG time til baby birthday, so I''ll be keeping up the regular chiropractor appointments til s/he''s born. :)
Yesterday was our hearing test for the boys and also new ear molds for William. David tested out fine on hearing, and William now has a red and blue earmold (right is red, left is blue) for his hearing aids. I am most excited about that because when William takes his hearing aids apart, I''ll be able to put them together faster. :)
Also, today was my OB appt. Little *Z* seems happy with heart rate around 140-150. s/he has lots of room in utero and I''m measuring 7-10 weeks ahead so lots of room for somersaults, which little *Z* seems to enjoy as s/he is at the moment breech. We are currently speculating that little *Z* is about 4 lbs at this time, so s/he''s growing nicely. (We''ll get little babe flipped on Thursday when I go to my Chiro appt.)
Latest OB appt went well on the newest *Z* member in utero. Heart rate in 130''s. BettyAnn is only measuring 5 weeks ahead now (she was measuring 7-10 weeks ahead earlier in pregnancy, so things are leveling out). Weight is up a total of 24 lbs at this time.
Prayers for a continued uneventful pregnancy and labor/delivery and full term, healthy, living child outcome would be appreciated for the duration of this pregnancy. :)
We are excited to share with you the news that our family will be expanding to include a new family member in the late spring/early summer. :) So, watch for the wild red lilies to bloom - and around the same time, we will be welcoming a new little person into our lives. We have decided NOT to find out the gender of this baby, so it''ll be a surprise to us all. We do have names already selected, though. *smiles*
We are continuing the tradition of naming our children after family members on both sides of the family and also looking into the meanings of the names as well. A lot of thought and research has gone into our name selections.
If we have a boy, his name will be: Johnathon Roger (named after BettyAnn''s Uncle John, and Darren''s Uncle Roger) This name means: God is gracious, staff or famous spear.
If we have a girl, her name will be: Bethany Lynn (named after BettyAnn''s mom, Elizabeth, and Darren''s Aunt Jennie (her middle name is Lynnette). This name means: God is my oath, torch or bright light/pretty one.
Prayers appreciated throughout the remainder of this pregnancy specifically for a full term, healthy living child and an uncomplicated labor and delivery. :)
